Happy Holidays!

The last week of school before winter break is always a busy one.  Hope you were able to make it out to one of the winter concerts.  The boys and girls sang beautifully.  We were busy doing winter arts and crafts this week.  To cap the week off on a festive note, staff and students gathered in the courtyard for carolling before school.  After what felt like a long wait, the kids were super excited to take home their paper whites to share with their families.

Wishing you a warm and wonderful Christmas!  See you in the New Year.

Crafting with Kids

Click the link below to read Handmade Holidays, written by Christina Symons, for the Vancouver Sun, featuring none other than OUR grade one class!  A previous post on our class blog titled, Deck the Halls, showcases the paper wreaths and pinecone trees made by the kids that day.  Hope you enjoy all the handmade treasures from your little ones this holiday season...they'll be coming home from school this week!  Happy Holidays.

Top of the World

Last Wednesday we were VERY lucky to head up to the top of Grouse Mountain, with two other grade one classes, for the Peak of Christmas.  This amazing field trip was made possible by a very generous donation to our school.  The day began with the sky ride.  The children were mesmerized watching the green trees turn snow covered as we climbed higher.  Their delight at the top was indescribable.  I think their cheeks probably hurt from smiling so much.  We saw reindeer, went for a winter walk along a snowshoe trail, saw Santa in his workshop and best of all played in the snow!  We capped off a perfect day with a cup of hot cocoa at the bottom of the mountain, thanks to another generous donation.

Vogue Theatre and The Naden Band

Last Thursday we were fortunate to attend a concert presented by the Salvation Army at the Vogue Theatre.  The Naden Band of Maritime Forces, Canada's West Coast Navy Band was performing.  What an entertaining and festive afternoon!  The musical program was a potpourri of festive music, including original works and holiday favourites.  The class wrote about their afternoon at the Vogue the following day at school.
