We have been watching our bean plants very closely. Our seedlings are growing and changing every day. The roots are growing down into the moist, dark soil. Some are even poking their way through the bottom of the newspaper pots! Tender, green shoots are pushing their way up towards the light flooding their sunny home on our classroom windowsill. Some plants even have leaves already! What will they look like next week?

Planting Beans
We read a funny story from Frog and Toad Are Friends called The Garden. Toad loved Frog's garden so much that he decided to grow a garden for himself. Toad didn't have much patience and tried everything he could think of to get his flower seeds to grow faster! He sang to them, read to them and even stayed up all night with them so they didn't get scared. By the time his seeds were about to sprout Toad had tired himself out and fallen fast asleep.
We made recycled newspaper pots to plant our bean seeds in this week. We are excited for our seeds to sprout, but we will be more patient than Toad. Our seeds will need light, water and time to grow.

Spring has Sprung!
We read Kevin Henkes' picture book Old Bear, back in the fall and pulled it out again this week to welcome spring. The children knew the names of many spring flowers in the story and were excited to sketch their own spring gardens. After drawing in pencil, they outlined their work with sharpies and brought them to life using vibrant water colours. Spring has sprung!
